Frozen lakes, larch forests and long lunches in the Engadin: how to spend a week in the Alps without rushing.
St. Moritz sits high in the Engadin valley, where the light is famously clear and the lake is framed by larch forests that turn gold in autumn and white in winter. It is a place built for slowing down: mornings on the slopes, afternoons walking the lake shore, evenings in the village.
In deep winter the lake freezes solid and becomes part of the season's life. In February it hosts White Turf, the horse races run on the ice. Between events it is simply one of the most beautiful walks in the Alps.
For skiers, Corviglia rises directly above the village, and the wider Engadin offers some of Switzerland's best cross-country trails across the valley floor. In summer the same landscape opens up for hiking and mountain biking between the lakes.
Stay in the center and you rarely need a car: the village, its restaurants and shops, and the lifts are all within reach on foot.
